Federal Plaza

SOLUTION

The courthouse building designed by Richard Meier opened in 2000 and is the third largest federal courthouse in the United States and the largest building on Long Island outside of New York City. Given the design team’s technical skills, architectural experience and prior success with intricate sites, WFC was selected by the various Wireless Carriers to design and implement the mobile communications facilities within the 12-story 870,000 sq ft courthouse building.

One of the main focuses when designing and implementing these communications facilities was to install the exterior equipment with no impact to the facade of the iconic building design. White Radio Frequency (RF) transparent facade panels were installed in-place of the existing facade panels where RF panel antennas were installed within the existing wall construction.

All antenna cabling was routed inconspicuously or within the building, to the multiple antenna locations. The success of this project can be measured by the extent to which the equipment, antennas and cabling are completely invisible to the building occupants and visitors as they go about their day to day activities.
