New Main Post Office – LEED Gold

LEED Gold Building and Site Design

SOLUTION

The Town of Oyster Bay varies widely in Architectural styles, from Gold Coast Mansions, to Modern Office Buildings, as well as post World War II towns and villages.  Although the most notable Architecture is in fact the historic sites and buildings authentically recreated and carefully maintained, such as the Old Bethpage Restoration Village and the Sagamore Hill Historic Site, tract housing and modern office buildings now comprise a significant portion of the town’s architecture.

WFC’s objective of the new Plainview Branch Post Office building proposal was not to conform to the modern office buildings but to maintain the integrity of the historic Town of Oyster Bay while meeting the requirements of the 21st Century Postal Service.

From an efficiency standpoint, the LEED design of the Post Office Building underwent detailed computer modeling that simulated actual energy consumption in BTU’s and cost of operation per year. The innovative design techniques and construction materials proved successful when the energy evaluation resulted in a building designed to be approximately 30% more efficient than a standard building constructed with conventional building materials in accordance with the energy code. Ultimately this building is expected to cost approximately $7,000 less to operate per year, and that’s good news for our clients and their businesses.
