Academic Building Renovation

SOLUTION

With more than 26,000 students enrolled at three campuses Suffolk County Community College is the largest community college in New York State. After successfully serving the Long Island academic community for decades, the Riverhead Building at the Ammerman Campus was due for a modernization.  WFC was selected to assist the Suffolk County Community College in renovating the building in two (2) phases.

Working closely with the facilities team from the College WFC conducted extensive research and had several collaborative meetings to create a plan to address the most immediate needs and to design a phasing program that began in 2013 and will conclude in 2014.  The renovations focused on the exterior facade and the interior design of the public spaces and class rooms.  Lecture Halls were renovated with acoustical attenuating fabric wall assemblies to control reverberation and sound levels. The Classrooms, TV Studio Training Room, Health Labs, Nursing Training Rooms, and Computer Training Centers were improved with interactive smart board and drop down projection displays. Additionally, the upper level faculty offices were completely updated, received new finishes, ceiling assemblies, and high efficiency LED lighting, as well as new hydronic perimeter base board heating,
